Bags that are slung over the shoulder are popular for the hands-free comfort they give to commuters.  A laptop messenger bag does exactly that, besides providing supreme comfort to the carrier and admirable protection to notebook PCs.  They are also fashionable, good-looking pieces that effortlessly go together with most casual and business attire.

Commuters and travelers who seek more versatile notebook PC transporters, however, might not be satisfied with a mere messenger bag.  They’d get more thrills from a hybrid/fusion laptop bag that can be lugged and worn in several ways.  From a briefcase-style bag, this particular carrier can transform smoothly into a messenger bag to a laptop backpack with help from its singular carrying strap system.  Isn’t that fabulous?  The bag’s versatility also means more parts of the body can now share in the burden of toting a laptop and its accessories day in and day out, and not just one body part. Switching the bag to a different style every so often likewise gives tired body parts much needed breaks and rest periods, especially on very long commutes.

Getting a protective case for your laptop can save you time and money. By keeping your treasured computer in a laptop backpack, you are keeping it away from food and liquid spills. But, even if you are keeping your laptop safe in a protective cover you may still have an accident when it’s out. If you do happen to spill anything on your laptop keyboard here’s what you should do to try to save it.

1. Act quickly. Shut down and unplug your computer and remove the battery.

2. Tip the laptop onto its side, then upside down in order to drain fluid out.

3. Quickly rinse out the keyboard with water and turn the laptop over to drain. Repeat this process several times. Try to use purified water if available.

4. Allow to dry completely. Wait several days to put the battery back in or to plug it in.

Last Friday, the company vice president sprung a real surprise on me. When he came over to my cubicle, I was fully expecting to be admonished for one reason or another. Much to my shock and delight, he instead asked me to make a financial presentation to the board of directors at their next meeting. The only catch? The meeting was to be held Monday.

With just a single weekend to work on the technical and oratorical aspects of the presentation, I had to bear down. I picked out a nice set of clothes and rehearsed my speech for hours. I also tried to anticipate any questions that might come up at the meeting. Luckily I already had a few laptop backpacks to choose from, allowing me to transport my computer to the meeting in style.

In all my years on this earth, I’ve never met anyone as obsessed with the color pink as my youngest niece. Her entire room is decked out with stuffed animals, carpet, draperies, wall paper and everything else that could possibly be bought in a pinkish hue. I vaguely remember telling people green was my favorite color growing up, but it never seemed to matter much. Well, to my niece it certainly does.

Now that she’s starting junior high, I figure it’s time for her to have a laptop that will allow her to work on her studies online. I’ve recently heard of colleges that are mandating their incoming freshmen have a laptop, and it’s best that she gets a head start. I honestly believe that technical know-how will separate the wheat from the chaff in the future. It should come as no surprise that my contribution to the gift will be a few pink laptop bags.

When I moved to the Pacific Northwest from Los Angeles, I expected to undergo a change in lifestyle. In L.A., the traffic is horrible but everyone drives anyway. There isn’t much choice because of the urban sprawl. Everything is spread out, and hopping on the expressway is the always the best bet. On the other hand, my new city is a high-density, bike-friendly Mecca for non-drivers.

Since I live so close to work, I can bike there each morning. These days traffic is the least of my concerns; instead, I’m focused on finding the best way to transport my papers, lunch and laptop computer to and from the office. Recently I picked up a laptop computer bag that features protection against accidental drops and other mishaps. It’s perfect for a busy commuter like me.

Caring for Leather Bags and Accessories

stylish-laptop-bagsCleaning a leather purse, handbag or other accessory can be a tricky proposition. As you’re undoubtedly aware, excess wetness can ruin a fashionable bag in practically no time. If your bag has begun to collect dirt and smudges, you should take a proactive approach – but don’t forget to check the manufacturer’s recommendations before doing anything drastic.

Begin by emptying the contents of the bag and wiping the inside with a soft, dry cloth. Most stylish laptop bags can handle a careful mixture of liquid soap and distilled water, but only apply it to the bag sparingly. If you’re working with a sponge, make sure it’s barely wet before touching it to the bag. Wipe the leather exterior with a damp rag and dry almost immediately with a towel. Think about the process of buffing a car to bring out its desired shine – cleaning a bag is very similar.
